A review of Stamp Day 2018

Stamp Day 2018 was celebrated from
23 to 25 November in Allschwil. Inquisitive visitors and stamp enthusiasts from all over Switzerland attended the event. The displays mainly contained unknown items from exhibitors who were contesting for the right to take part in the next highest qualifying exhibition (level 2). -The line-up included some leading and experienced exhibitors.
The range of items was extremely diverse. As well as exhibits showcasing traditional philately and postal history, there were also thematic collections on display, ranging from orchids to breakdancing to Odysseus’ journey.- A new feature was a philately trail designed to encourage visitors to collect motifs and to provide lots of useful information for newcomers.

A further highlight was the opening celebration attended by Monica Gschwind, President of the Cantonal Council for Basel-Land, and Allschwil municipal councillor Christoph Morat. The autograph session
with the designer of the miniature sheet also proved very popular on the Saturday afternoon.

“Preparations were intense, and we’re -delighted with the result,” said Ernst Schlunegger, president of the organizational committee. Swiss Post would like to
say a big thank you to Ernst, the other members of the committee and all of the volunteers!
