UCI MTB World Championships 2018

Does the expression “UCI MTB” mean nothing to you? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. The abbreviations refer to both a traditional association and a sport that is very much in vogue. The answer to the puzzle: Swiss Post’s special stamp is dedicated to the Mountain Bike World Championships 2018, which will be held in Lenzerheide.

UCI stands for the “Union Cycliste Internationale” – the international cycling association. The Mountain Bike World Championships in summer 2018, organized by the UCI, are the highlight of the Swiss biking calendar. The best mountain bikers will compete for the world title from 5 to 9 September in Lenzerheide. Around 30,000 spectators will line the routes, creating a fantastic atmosphere and no end of moments that will send shivers down your spine. In addition to the daily races, events and parties promise a unique mountain bike festival. Both team and individual competitions are being held in the disciplines of cross-country (an Olympic sport since 1996) and downhill. The latter is comparable with downhill skiing. In Nino Schurter and Jolanda Neff, Switzerland has top-class athletes in cross-country, but it also has hopes of winning medals in the downhill competitions.
